There are lots of reasons to love the tear-jerking new indie comedy Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which was the biggest hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and comes out this Friday, but it’s hard to beat the main characters’ wonderfully low-budget remakes of classic movies.

Though (as the title suggests) the movie is a heartbreaker, the teenaged protagonists’ DIY takes on landmark films represent their own attempt to keep a good sense of humor amid sadness. We asked the filmmakers if we could reveal the DVD cover art they made for the parodies, and you can see a selection of the covers below.
