Miley Cyrus gets a lot of flak, much of which is warranted, but often forgotten is the simple fact that she’s a really, really good singer. And for her latest performance, Cyrus enlisted a legend who knows a thing or two about bad reputations: Joan Jett.

Cyrus inducted Jett into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, and it seems the two hit it off—there’s a growling, howling rapport on view as they cover Jett’s “Different,” one of the stand-out cuts off 2013’s Unvarnished. The performance is part of Cyrus’ “Backyard Sessions” series, which, through her recently announced Happy Hippie Foundation, raises money to support homeless and LGBT youth in vulnerable communities.
