Watch Billy Crystal Serenade David Letterman About Late Show’s Most Memorable Moments

Billy Crystal has been making appearances with David Letterman for 32 years, and last night he made his final appearance before Letterman retires.* “It’s so weird that you’re leaving and I’m just sort of getting back to television,” Crystal said, referring to his new FX sitcom The Comedians. Crystal added later, “Dave, seriously, you’re my best friend on television, and what I can’t put into words, I’d like to put into a song.”

What followed was a humorously sentimental ditty, set to the melody of “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof, as Crystal recalled some of the show’s most memorable moments and mused on the post-Letterman era of late night.

Correction, April 20, 2015: This post originally misstated that Billy Crystal has been appearing on Late Show for 32 years. The show was called Late Night until 1993.
