James Corden has only been at the Late Late Show desk for a few weeks, but he’s already winning fans with his earnest, bracingly sincere style. Corden likes to entertain people, and he doesn’t apologize for it; he’s sweet but never sappy, cheery but never cloying. Those qualities are on full display in the above segment, in which Corden invites Jennifer Hudson to drive around L.A. and sing a few tunes with him.
Naturally, Hudson does most of the singing: Over the course of eight joyous minutes, we hear her belt out everything from “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” to a drive-through order, concluding with a powerhouse cadenza that Corden very amusingly attempts to match.
