The First Full Trailer for Ant-Man Promises a Marvel Movie That’s More Light on Its Feet

Among Marvel titles, Ant-Man has always seemed like a bit of an underdog. But the movie’s first full trailer, released today, suggests that its strengths are far greater than the name suggests. Paul Rudd looks ideal for the role of a reluctant hero, and the trailer manages much more wit than we saw in the more sentimental teaser back in January.

In the movie adaptation, Rudd’s Scott Lang becomes a superhero under the tutelage of Michael Douglas (whose Hank Pym was the original Ant-Man in the comic books). Corey Stoll is equally well cast as Ant-Man’s adversary, Yellowjacket; but the writing duo of Paul Rudd and Adam McKay may be the film’s greatest secret weapon. In some ways, the Peyton Reed–directed movie looks like it will be a Marvel film in the vein of Guardians of the Galaxy, interspersing moments of tight comic timing into an otherwise standard action-adventure storyline. And if it has more knowing winks like the Toy Storyesque pint-size battle that closes this trailer, Ant-Man should be lots of fun when it hits theaters in July.
