When Movie Characters Break the Fourth Wall: The Sequel Supercut

Back in 2013, video essayist Leigh Singer shared a supercut of movie characters breaking the fourth wall. The video’s premise wasn’t too interesting—yes, characters sometimes look directly into the camera—but its execution was sublime. Singer didn’t just compile clips: He cannily highlighted, through whip-smart editing and an eye for clever juxtaposition, how movie characters can subvert or set up audience expectations.

Now, with the help of a few fan suggestions, Singer’s shared a sequel to that video, which further explores the many ways someone on screen can toy with a viewer. A full list of the films featured can be found here.
