Dear Restaurants: No One Wants to Eat Out of a Shovel. Or a Shoe.

One of my favorite places to grab dinner in the West Village is a cheese bar that serves cheeses on rectangular slates. This aesthetic affectation has never bothered me, probably because they also give you ceramic plates from which to consume said cheese. But judging from We Want Plates, a Facebook page and Twitter account devoted to documenting the variety of ridiculous vessels used for food service, not all restaurants are considerate enough to distribute plates alongside their slates. Or cutting boards. Or shovels.

Those are just a few of the vessels restaurateurs have used to serve meals on, and the We Want Plates Twitter timeline makes a compelling case that some things were just not made to be eaten off of.
