John Oliver Talked to Edward Snowden About How the Government Is Spying on Your Dick Pics

There was no Last Week Tonight last week, and now we know that’s because John Oliver was working on something special. For this week’s supersized “main story” on domestic government surveillance, Oliver flew to Russia last week to sit down to  a very unusual interview with Edward Snowden.

With the Patriot Act up for reauthorization on June 1, Oliver wanted to talk to Snowden about just how quickly Americans have stopped talking about all the complex issues surrounding all the disturbing government programs Snowden revealed. And to put it in terms all Americans can understand, they focused, specifically, on all the ways the government can spy on your dick pics. It was a perfect example of just how good Oliver is at making otherwise prosaic or mind-numbingly complicated issues hit home, and it was worth the wait.
