That’s not hyperbole: The song’s been No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 10 weeks and counting—a feat only 3 percent of chart-toppers have pulled off—and its retro sound and music video have inspired countless tributes.
The latest to pay homage? Voldemort. YouTube user KWaveTV has blessed us with “Dark Lord Funk”, a very well-executed parody that features the villain indulging in some last-minute braggadocio (“Albus sent you, hallelujah”) before his assault on Hogwarts. This should’ve been another half-baked gimmick, but the song’s sparkling lyrics (“fill my goblet, put some fire in it”) and the video’s subtle Harry Potter references cast a pretty powerful spell.
