The New Inside Out Trailer Will Leave You With Lots of Emotions

Even if the first trailer for Pixar’s upcoming film Inside Out, comprised of one uninterrupted scene, left you skeptical—what was up with all those outdated gender stereotypes?—the more expansive new trailer should get you excited again.

Taking place almost entirely inside the mind of young Riley (newcomer Kaitlyn Dias), the trailer follows her personified emotions for Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Joy (Amy Poehler) as they find themselves outside of the mind’s headquarters and must find their way back. Along the way, we get glimpses of realms like Imagination Land and Dream Productions, which look exactly like the kind of weird, colorful worlds we used to take for granted from Pixar. And despite the clearly demarcated emotions (there’s also Fear, Disgust, and Anger, played by the perfectly cast Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, and Lewis Black), there are hints that Inside Out may indeed go beyond broad characterizations and tap into that rarely mined place in Hollywood, the mind of an adolescent girl. To find out whether Inside Out will bring us Joy or Disappointment, we’ll have to wait until it’s released this June.
