Like the two or three films he made before it, M. Night Shyamalan’s last movie, After Earth, was a critical disaster. But if any year is going to mark Shyamalan’s comeback, it’s 2015: he’s got a new movie, The Visit, being released in September, and Wayward Pines, the mystery series for which he’s an executive producer, premieres in May. Fox just released a new trailer for the latter, and it looks surprisingly entertaining.
The show is based on Pines, the book by Blake Crouch, and the plot follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), who arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, to locate two missing federal agents. Naturally, the place isn’t quite what it seems, with Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, and Juliette Lewis playing some of the town’s loopier denizens. Not the most innovative premise, perhaps, but if you have a hankering for something between Twin Peaks and The Village, this seems like a solid bet.
