News broke Tuesday that Jon Stewart would leave The Daily Show later this year. The move ends the host’s legendary reign at a desk where he oversaw some of the best satire to air on television, and above is his moving, measured, and typically eloquent announcement of the departure.
As he notes, it’s been a long run—17 years is enough for “the longest I have ever in my life held a job by 16 years and 5 months.”
