In a perfect world, we’d have a daily podcast comprised solely of Matthew McConaughey’s musings on time, truth, and Longhorns football. In reality, all we have are those ubiquitous Lincoln commercials, which riff on McConaughey’s Rust Cohle character but never go quite far enough. Enter YouTube user Auralnauts, who’s done the public service of extending and altering one of the ads to feature McConaughey’s five-minute interior monologue as he stares out a café window.
As his sleek Lincoln is pelted by rain outside, McConaughey ponders the important questions. For example: Why did he order that water? As he notes: “There’s perfectly good water outside. Just look up, and drink. Until my belly’s full. Look at that—all that rain. What if this is it? What if this is the end of days? Am I ready for that?”
And so on. Voice actor Jon Bailey supplies the uncannily accurate drawl and McConaughey supplies the philosopher-king beard. Enjoy.
