The Simpsons Paid Tribute to Charlie Hebdo Last Night

You might have missed it while watching the Golden Globes, but The Simpsons managed to squeeze in a short tribute to the slain cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo last night.

Joining the ranks of the many comedians and cartoonists who have expressed their solidarity with the victims at the satirical magazine, The Simpsons inserted a brief message that seemed to riff on Eugène Delacroix’s famous painting Liberty Leading the People (or were they thinking of the poster for Les Misérables?), except this time with the flag hoisted by Maggie:

The episode was based on a Judd Apatow script originally written more than two decades ago, but the show still managed to find a brief slot for this image around the episode’s end.
