Last month, Stephen Colbert bid his Colbert Report farewell with an epic, celebrity-packed, sing-along send-off. Since then, we’ve awaited the news of when we’ll finally see Colbert on TV again. Now we have it: CBS announced Monday that The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Colbert will take over for David Letterman as the show’s host, whose last episode will air on Wednesday, May 20.
CBS did not give any details on the show’s format, other than to say in a press release that Colbert will “introduce himself, the real Stephen Colbert to his audience.” Comedy Central’s Colbert Report replacement, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore, will premiere Jan. 19.
