If the Comic-Con trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road was “high-speed, adrenaline-pumping glory,” as I wrote over the summer, the newest trailer is all that on steroids. There are explosions, yes, and chase scenes, and massive battles set to a classical score—all the things of action movies going back decades. But there’s something particularly grand about this trailer, expertly crafted to provide just the right balance of mystery, bombast, and absurdity.
Directed by original Max Max director George Miller, and starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, Fury Road looks like a wild ride that could be worthy of this once great franchise. We’ll see whether it can live up to the promise of this trailer on May 15, 2015.
