Every December, DJ Earworm brings the most popular songs of the last 12 months together in one year-end mashup. It’s a great way to recap the sound (and, since he also edits together the music videos, the look) of the year in pop, and I look forward to it each year.
We’ve noted many times on this blog that 2014, especially since the summer, has been pretty much dominated by women, and this year’s mashup reflects that: Heavy-hitters Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, and Iggy Azalea inevitably feature prominently, some of them with multiple hits, alongside newcomers like Meghan Trainor and Tove Lo.
