We’ve featured many installments of Blank on Blank, PBS’s animated interview series, but their latest video is particularly moving. It comprises two interviews with the late Robin Williams, whose rapid-fire comedy and blistering, introspective sincerity have rarely been in fuller force.
The interviews are from a story Lawrence Grobel did in 1992 for Playboy. In them, Williams characteristically flits from one persona to another: the motor-mouthed funny guy, speculating on the world of 2020; the confessional celebrity, copping to his many shortcomings; the humane family man, quick to emphasize the importance of humility. It’s a lovely, touching reminder of the breadth and depth of his talent.
