Mike Is Back in Our First Substantive Peek at Better Call Saul

Our exposure to Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s highly anticipated Breaking Bad spinoff, has so far been limited to a song and some snippets. Now we finally have an actual, substantive scene to overanalyze, but there’s really only one thing worth saying: Mike Ehrmantraut is back.

That’s not exactly news, as Gilligan and Gould confirmed months ago that the show, which takes place six years before the events of Breaking Bad, would feature the return of Jonathan Banks’s lovable hit man. But it’s thrilling to see Mike, in all his cranky glory, spar with Saul in a parking lot—after all, the backstory and comic rapport between the two is perhaps the most compelling narrative the show has to offer. Better Call Saul is out in February.
