If The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou Were an 8-Bit Video Game

The latest in Cinefix’s 8-Bit Cinema series tackles The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, and it’s a delightful take on one of Wes Anderson’s most original, eccentric films.

The video is technically 16-bit, a move necessary to render the film’s rich textures and striking color palette. The treatment is strangely appropriate for Anderson’s work: the side-scrolling format mimics his elaborate tracking shots, and the pixelated characters move in the same precise, manicured motions as his actors. Per usual, the animation and music were done by David and Henry Dutton, respectively.
