SNL Celebrates White People Being on Top, for Now

Sarah Silverman as a white person.

Despite last week’s encouraging effort, SNL returned last night to listless, uninspired, and often grating comedy. Sarah Silverman hosted the so-so episode, which did have one amusing moment: “Whites,” the digital short that celebrates white people in all their goofy, resourceful, milquetoast glory.

The short is also an acknowledgment of changing times: a chipper Aidy Bryant tells us that the rule of white people “won’t last forever,” and that the “final few years of white dominance” are on the horizon. Elsewhere in the episode, Joan Rivers roasted people in heaven and people unfunnily argued about the price of juice blenders.
