For a few brief moments in last year’s Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey rode a bull. In a new commercial, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, for the Lincoln MKC, the actor takes on a bull again—though this time it’s in an entirely different, more playful manner, and recalls another of his recent roles.
McConaughey brings to mind Rust Cohle with this bit of vehicular philosophizing, and seems to be poking subtle fun at his own rugged Texan persona as he stares down the big beast. Refn, who directed the self-consciously macho Drive, is also having a bit of fun here, I suspect.
