The Teaser for Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight Has Leaked

Hateful_Eight

Last week /Film reported that, in an effort to drive fans to Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight would only appear in theaters. That’s no longer the case. An apparently bootlegged version (though The Wire suggests the “bootlegged” part might have been faked by the studio itself) has leaked online, and it’s available to watch on YouTube.

The movie hasn’t even started filming yet, but the teaser still manages to fill out more than a minute with blood-streaked, animated title cards, which introduce each of the eight title characters. The tone suggests that the movie will be another modern update on the spaghetti Western in the style of Django Unchained: The second bit of music comes from the score for spaghetti Western Gunmen of Rio Grande, as /Film points out, while the first is Iggy and the Stooges’ 1973 classic “Gimme Danger.” Tarantino has said he would be revising the script after it leaked in January and giving it a new ending, but the basic premise still seems to be intact, with eight characters (many of them strangers) taking shelter together in a blizzard, and presumably lots of tense dialogue and bloodshed erupting from there.

The teaser doesn’t name the cast, but the live reading of the screenplay featured Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Amber Tamblyn, Zoë Bell, and James Remar, and many are expected to return. As the movie’s poster confirmed, the film, Tarantino’s eighth, is due out in 70mm Super Cinemascope in 2015.
