Stabilizing a Few Camera Shots Makes the Star Trek Crew Look Utterly Ridiculous

Picard and gang look a tad silly with a stabilized camera.

The Star Trek shows used all sorts of little tricks to skirt production costs. One in particular will be familiar to any Trekkie: to simulate the ship being hit or otherwise disturbed, the actors would shimmy in their seats or literally hurl themselves across the room while the camera shook, yielding a serviceable illusion of chaos on board.

Stabilizing the camera, of course, makes those same scenes entirely ridiculous: dignified thespians like Patrick Stewart are seen writhing in impromptu panic and convulsing across command modules. Redditors have combined some of these stabilized-camera shots to make a hilarious video. Even better, the clip is set to “Turn Down For What,” which has a music video that will further satisfy any cravings you have for people flailing about.
