Phil Collins, who officially retired from music in 2011, has made an unlikely return: the British icon recently sang some of his most popular hits with a middle-school band in Miami. Collins was in the city to be with two of his sons, who attend the local Miami Country Day school; he endearingly cops to being a bit nervous before delivering what’s probably one of the more epic middle-school concerts in history.
Funnily enough, the set may be the first time Collins has performed “In the Air Tonight” in close to a decade. Recent spinal surgery has rendered him almost incapable of drumming, but his voice—elastic and crystal-clear—has thankfully endured.
