Julia Louis-Dreyfus Ditches White House Correspondents Dinner, Hangs Out With Joe Biden

Veep’s Selina Meyer and Joe Biden discuss the struggles of politics over ice cream.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has spent the past few years helming HBO’s Veep, applying her comic genius to the role of addled and ambitious vice-president Selina Meyer. To promote the critically-acclaimed comedy, HBO released a 7-minute short that follows Meyer as she ditches last night’s White House Correspondents Dinner to spend the day with actual vice-president Joe Biden—an outing that mostly involves the power duo zooming around D.C. in a bright yellow Corvette.

The amusing promo is stacked with high-profile political cameos: besides Biden, there’s a lecture on healthy eating habits from Michelle Obama, a tattoo parlor rendezvous with Nancy Pelosi, and a folksy phone call with John Boehner. Also included are some sly references to other political shows—a conversation over buckets of ice cream copped from The West Wing and a little dig at House of Cards’ tendency to break the fourth wall (“Yes, we can all look directly into the camera, Kevin. The point is, you’re not supposed to”). Enjoy.
