Since Tune-Yards’ album w h o k i l l won the 2011 Pazz & Jop poll, fans like me have been anxious to hear what Merrill Garbus does next. Garbus spent time in Haiti last year to, as she wrote half-jokingly but all-seriously, “situate myself in a non-western musical tradition.” The tireless energy of those four-hour dance classes Garbus took on the island sure show in “Water Fountain,” the totally great first song to be released from her new album, Nikki Nack, out May 6. WOO-HA!
