Mike Judge Skewers the Tech World With Silicon Valley

Mike Judge fans rejoice: The man behind Office Space and Idiocracy will skewer the tech industry in a new satire, Silicon Valley, and HBO has just released a promising full trailer. It features a predictable-looking group of young men with varying degrees of facial hair who band together to start their own company, and it opens with the claim that Steve Jobs was a poser because he didn’t write code.

The half-hour comedy marks a return to television for Judge, who created both Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill, which ended its 13-season run in 2010. Silicon Valley zeroes in on a very different type: a computer programmer named Richard (Thomas Middleditch) who creates a search algorithm he hopes will free him from his job at a giant (fictional) tech company.

The Bay Area tech sector has been the butt of jokes for years, but the pairing of Judge and HBO—not to mention a cast that includes Martin Starr, T.J. Miller, Kumail Nanjiani, and Zach Woods—is encouraging. The show premieres April 6, after Season 3 premiere of the government-skewering Veep. That’s one tasty-looking kebab.
