A Fascinating Side-by-Side Tour Through London in 1927 and 2013

Rare color footage from the early years of cinema is always a fascinating find, and cinematographer Claude Friese-Greene’s 1927 shots of London, restored by the British Film Institute, are no exception. Last year filmmaker Simon Smith decided to replicate each of the shots from Friese-Greene’s footage, and found that his six month-long project “revealed how little London has changed.”

Below you can check out the many metropolitan details that have changed or stayed the same over those 86 years; the side-by-side comparison is striking, and the overall effect is surprisingly touching.
