Like many works in Martin Scorsese’s estimable oeuvre, The Wolf of Wall Street is brimming with pop songs. The soundtrack features an assortment of memorable hits from the past, including Eartha Kitt’s “C’est Si Bon” and Howlin’ Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightning.” One older hit gets a great new cover: the theme song from Goldfinger, performed by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.
The legendary singer puts her own touch on the Shirley Bassey classic, and the Dap-Kings, per usual, provide sharp, excellent accompaniment that strikes the sweet spot between a retro and contemporary sound.
