After almost a year of delays, you can finally listen to M.I.A.’s new album Matangi, days before its release next week. We’ve already heard many of the album’s singles and highlights: She’s shared not just the monster “Bad Girls,” one of the best singles of last year, but the mellow (at first) “Come Walk With Me,” the assaultive “Bring the Noize,” the vulnerable Carly Simon- and Blur-sampling “Unbreak My Mixtape,” the insistent, (perhaps grating) “AtTENTion,” and more.

As those tracks suggested, the album is all over the place. Thematically, it’s divided between the personal and the political (when they’re not one and the same). “I developed a little emo side,” she recently told Billboard, while telling The Fader that the album is about “what the options for being a woman are.” Musically, it’s as eclectic as one can always expect with Maya, with trap beats, tribal drums, sub-bass, and chopped-up vocal and Bollywood samples, courtesy of producers Switch, Hit-Boy, and of course M.I.A. herself. You can stream the full album below.
