We’re One Step Closer to Stand-Alone HBO Go Service

For those of you still not yet caught up on The Sopranos and The Wire thanks to the costly inconvenience of HBO Go only being available for premium cable subscribers, your luck is about to change. Comcast will offer HBO and HBO Go along with their basic cable package. As Indiewire reports:

Comcast has launched “Internet Plus,” a 12-month special offer that includes broadband, streaming video service StreamPix, Limited Basic TV (20 channels plus VOD) and… drumroll… HBO/HBO Go, all for a price that’s around what broadband costs these days – $39.99 or $49.99, depending on the market. As with most of these deals, the price will jump after the year is up, to $69.99 or $79.99.

While it’s not quite the ideal that Netflix represents (a complete stand-alone service), it’s definitely a step in the right direction towards more a la carte TV choices for customers. And now you have even less of an excuse for not knowing why Omar is one of the best characters ever created.
