A couple months ago we posted the first new single from Neko Case’s upcoming album, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You. That song, “Man,” was a gender-bending rocker with M. Ward.

The lyrics to Case’s new song, “Night Still Comes,” are more obscure, but that may be deliberate. “If I puked up some sonnets,/ Would you call me a ‘miracle’?” she sings on the second verse. Still, that doesn’t stop the words, which seem to survey the ruins of a lost relationship, from being evocative. By the time her voice rises up to belt the chorus, you may find that the meaning of it all ceases to matter.

The Worse Things Get… is out on Sept. 3.
