This Previously Unheard Recording Is Bob Dylan at His Tuneful Best

Bob Dylan recorded "Pretty Saro," an old English folk tune kept alive in the Appalachian Mountains, while working on his much maligned 1970 album Self Portrait. According to Rolling Stone, the recording remained in Columbia's vault, un-bootlegged, for 43 years.

But it's one of the 35 tracks on the upcoming box set, Another Self-Portrait, which will include unreleased recordings originally made for that 1970 album and for Nashville Skyline and New Morning. Rolling Stone premiered the song today, along with the accompanying video by Jennifer Lebeau, who pieced together photos and videos from the Farm Security Administration.

This is Dylan the studio performer at his tuneful best. Enjoy.
