Franz Ferdinand (the band, not the dead archduke) dropped the video for their new single “Right Action,” their first new output in four years, on Sunday. The single builds on the group’s catalog of catchy, snappy dance-rock without really pushing into tremendously adventurous new territory (unlike their last release, an awesome dub remix of their previous full album).

Perhaps most notable is the video itself, a fun pastiche of ’60s pop-music imagery animated in the same kinetic style, and by the same director, as the video for their breakout 2005 hit, “Take Me Out.”

Also notable is just how strongly the single recalls early Talking Heads, who remain a musical touchstone for a whole strand of upbeat-yet-neurotic funk rock.

Franz Ferdinand’s next album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, is due Aug. 27.
