Barack Obama Sings “Get Lucky”

Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” might still be at only No. 2 on the Billboard charts this week (and rising), but it seems more and more destined to be the song of the summer. The latest evidence is two new covers being passed around today: one by Wilco, from their all-covers set over the weekend, and the second from Barack Obama, as remixed by baracksdubs.

If the gimmick seems familiar, perhaps you saw what these same folks did with last year’s song of the summer, “Call Me Maybe,” around the same time last June. In fact, “Get Lucky” seems to be retracing the steps of the Carly Rae Jepsen smash, with a new remix or mashup or other viral video appearing seemingly every day. (“Call Me Maybe” hit No. 1 in June of last year, so we’ll see whether “Get Lucky” can topple its nearest competitor, Robin Thicke’s Marvin Gaye-inspiredBlurred Lines,” this week.)

Surely it’s only a matter of time before Daft Punk has their breakout hit sung by Cookie Monster. May we suggest “Get Cookie”?
