Our first glimpse at Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs was not especially inspiring. This new trailer, on the other hand, does everything it can to be inspirational: the soaring music, the underdog storyline, the quotable aphorisms. This is Steve Jobs, Epic Hero, complete with (corporate) villains to slay and a spiritual quest.
Will it work at feature length? I have my doubts. Kutcher still looks the part—and still feels rather unconvincing. And this looks like a very straightforward biopic, a genre that rarely succeeds when done this traditionally.
I will continue to hold out for the Aaron Sorkin version.
