Vince Gilligan and the Cast Talk Breaking Bad, Which Comes Back in August

Yesterday on Brow Beat we posted Conan O’Brien’s great, lengthy round-table discussion with four of the original writers of The Simpsons, whom he worked with prior to hosting Late Night. Apparently Conan gets dibs on the best TV talks around: Today we learned of his recent 70-minute interview with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, as well as cast members Bryan Cranston, Dean Norris, Bob Odenkirk, Betsy Brandt, Jonathan Banks, and RJ Mitte.

You won’t hear any spoilers about future episodes, but you will get a few questions about past episodes answered. Such as: Which idea came first, having Gail give Walt a signed copy of Leaves of Grass, or—spoiler, if you have yet to see Part 1 of Season 5—having Hank discover Walt’s secret while on the toilet? Does our favorite source of comic relief, Bob Odenkirk as sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman, ever improvise his lines? What is the one scene that particularly blew away each of the actors upon first reading the script?

For such a heavy show, the panel discussion is often funny, and it’s great to see O’Brien, who’s clearly a huge fan, effortlessly pepper Gilligan and the cast with questions. Sadly, AMC just announced that part two of Season 5 won’t begin on July 14, as previously speculated; we have to wait until Aug. 11. So you have plenty of time to enjoy this interview.
