Everything we knew before about HBO’s Phil Spector, which airs on March 24, suggested a serious biopic in the You Don’t Know Jack mold: It stars Al Pacino and Helen Mirren, it was written and directed by David Mamet, and its subject—the legendary eponymous music producer, who, in 2009, was convicted of second-degree murder and is currently serving 19 years to life—lends both cultural and criminal gravitas.
But that hair! And Jeffrey Tambor! And that hair! The trailer below shows off Pacino in a number of unlikely coiffures, and looks like a bit of a mess. But we’re intrigued, at least. And the soundtrack is going to be great.
