Granted, we’re only two weeks into 2013, but the awfulness of this movie title will be hard to top: The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia is about a young family that moves into an old house in Georgia, only to discover that, thanks to its heroic past—a previous resident helped slaves escape to the north as part of the Underground Railroad—it is now haunted.
What does this have to do with Connecticut? Nothing, of course. But the original Haunting in Connecticut was a minor hit—the low-budget movie made $77 million worldwide—and someone decided that brand recognition was more important than good sense. According to earlier reports, this “sister film” (it is not, apparently, a true sequel) was set to be called The Haunting in Georgia, before more foolish heads prevailed.
A third movie is already planned, originally announced as The Haunting in New York. So keep your eyes peeled for The Haunting in Connecticut 3: Ghosts of the Tri-State Area. Or, you know, don’t.
