In the forthcoming sci-fi film Oblivion, Tom Cruise stars as Jack Harper (not to be confused with Jack Reacher), a “drone repairman” on a post-apocalyptic Earth—a bit like Wall-E, as others have noted.
Then he tumbles down a mineshaft or some such and Morgan Freeman shows him how deep the rabbit hole goes—people are in pods and there’s a vast conspiracy, it looks like. Apparently this “triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.” Of course it does. Oblivion comes out in April.
