Aimee Mann and Ted Leo were scheduled to play at the Bowery Ballroom earlier this week, but Hurricane Sandy made that impossible. So they did a show in Williamsburg last night, and at one point Mann decided to do something a little goofy: Sing an impromptu song about the hurricane to the tune of Barry Manilow’s “Mandy.”
She prefaces the brief rendition by calling it “one of the dumbest things” she has ever done, but I disagree. The note of levity feels cathartic. And rhyming “we need you as much as Osama” with “now Chris Christie is calling Obama” is a nice touch.
