Today—Oct. 19—should have been the day that Community returned for its fourth and quite possibly final season, as announced by NBC with its initial fall lineup. Unfortunately, it wasn’t, and the recent news that Community’s Season 4 premiere is temporarily shelved has been a great disappointment to fans. But the cast of the cult comedy has taken it all in stride; cast members have expressed nothing but optimism and good humor with their Twitter followers in the intervening days, and now they’re even celebrating the passing of their show’s own due date.

In place of a full episode, the cast premiered a short video to wish everyone a “Happy Oct. 19” in the vein of the series’ sharp, offbeat humor. (The idea, according to Yvette Nicole Brown, was fellow star Gillian Jacobs’.)  As the classmates hang around the study lounge, Troy and Abed explain the motives behind NBC’s decision to shelve the premiere: “They explained to us that Oct. 19 isn’t just a date—it’s a state of mind,” says Abed. Any day can be Oct. 19, they say, and “while this move seems illogical, just trust us that the minds behind this shift know exactly what they’re doing.”

The cast has shown just as good a sense of humor on Twitter. Gillian Jacobs (who plays Britta) and Danny Pudi (Abed) tweeted photographic proof of their commitment to the show:

And in the case of one fan—who either hadn’t gotten the memo yet, or was simply playing along with the cast’s good humor—Yvette Nicole Brown wasn’t quite sure how to respond:

Today, Alison Brie stayed in the Oct. 19 spirit anyway:

This may not fully make up for the delay, but the continued support that Community has not just from its fans, but its cast as well, is something to be happy about.
