Jimmy Fallon has always been a gifted impressionist, though most of his mimicry takes musical form. Last night, he got into the political impersonation game, picking up on the “Romney will kill PBS” storyline with a sketch that amazingly does not seem to have been done by any of the big sketch shows before now: “Mr. Romney’s Neighborhood.”
Fallon doesn’t quite have the voice down, and the jokes are not particularly surprising—money, this Romney teaches us, “comes from a magical place called ‘our parents,’ ” and the Land of Make-Believe is “where me and Paul Ryan get most of our facts”—but as a lovingly detailed tribute to Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood (Henrietta the cat!), it’s pretty well done. And anything that honors the legacy of Fred Rogers is OK by us. Enjoy.
