Sandra Bernhard Sends Up Seinfeld

The title screen of the new web video

We noted Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the Jerry Seinfeld web series, back when its trailer premiered. It was subsequently panned by Slate’s Culture Gabfest. While I enjoy the laidback segments more than my colleagues—the Alec Baldwin episode, in particular, makes for an amusing diversion—the show’s focus on a certain persuasian of comic (specifically, white and male) has become somewhat glaring.

Enter Sandra Bernhard and THNKR, a new vowel-less, all-caps YouTube channel. They’ve created their own take on the rapidly proliferating “comics casually gabbing” genre, one with a distinctly female slant: Comedians Walking & Getting Mani-Pedis. Bernhard’s guest is The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead. Their banter can be enjoyed both for its own little gems—Bernhard’s anecdote about her proctologist father is especially, um, memorable—or as a little poke in Seinfeld’s ribs. Either way, it’s about half as long as the standard Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee episode, in case you need to get back to work soon.
