Jerry Seinfeld’s New Series

Ricky Gervais, left, and Jerry Seinfeld in the trailer for Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Jerry Seinfeld, we have just learned, has a new show premiering this month. Granted, it’s a Web series, not a TV show—it’s being put out by the Sony-owned online entertainment site Crackle. But it has a great name and, apparently, some excellent guests, including two of Seinfeld’s old Seinfeld colleagues, Larry David and Michael Richards.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee will, one gathers, be the latest iteration in the booming genre of comics talking to each other. Marc Maron’s podcast, WTF, is probably the most successful example of this new form, but TV has seen some good entrants in the category as well, such as The Green Room and the one-off Talking Funny (which featured none other than Jerry Seinfeld, along with Ricky Gervais—also seen in the trailer above—Chris Rock, and Louis C.K.).

The series premieres July 19.
