U2’s Bono and The Swell Season’s Glen Hansard joined other Irish musicians on the streets of one of Dublin’s busiest shopping districts to raise money for charity on Christmas Eve. The day before, Hansard tweeted that he would be singing “with some friends” the following day on Grafton Street, one of Dublin’s two biggest shopping thoroughfares. The musician, who became famous for playing a busker in 2007’s Once, added,
It’s not our place to judge why people are homeless.. It’s our place to help shelter the cold and hungry.. The rest is up to them..
The singers raised money for Dublin Simon Community and the Peter McVerry Trust, two nonprofit groups that provide services for homeless people. This was the third year that Bono and Hansard have busked for charity; they also took to the streets together in 2010 and 2009.
