Who on earth goes to see Harry Potter at 3 a.m. on a weeknight? We sent Slate intern Sam Wolson to the opening-night showing in Washington D.C.’s Gallery Place cinema in Chinatown to find out. The outcome was not remotely what we expected. In place of invisibility cloaks and wands were normally dressed people with rational explanations for why they’d stayed up so late on a Thursday.
