MAJOR DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS BELOW.
I AM WAY WAY SERIOUS.
DO NOT READ THIS IS YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE A GINORMOUS SPOILER.
IN FACT, EVERYONE LEAVE NOW.
[Looks around. Anyone left? OK.]
AAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Well, crap.
It’s official. David Tennant is leaving the role of Doctor Who.
Series 5 (what we call “season 5” in the US) will have the usual Christmas Special, then four more special episodes, and then a new actor will take over the role. Speculation is rampant about Who it will be (haha) but nothing has been confirmed yet.
I have something of a man crush on David Tennant, and I will be truly sorry to see him go. He has brought a depth and emotion to the role that beautifully ties in the pathos of the character that I need as an adult, with the swashbuckling nonsense I loved so much as an adolescent.
Adjusting to a new actor will be very difficult, but that’s the price of love for the show. I wonder if they’ll establish a new companion before this happens?
Sigh. OK, I can deal with this. And who knows; I like Christopher Eccleston a lot, but wound up liking Tennant more. Maybe the next person will be even better.
But still. Sigh.
Tip o’ the sonic screwdriver to Jason Hanford-Smith.
