Charles Kaiser is the author of 1968 in America, newly republished in a 30th-anniversary edition; The Cost of Courage; and The Gay Metropolis: The Landmark History of Gay Life in America. He is a frequent contributor to the Guardian (U.S.) and associate director of the LGBT Social Science and Public Policy Center at Hunter College.
